Gary is a great teacher. He listens to what a student wants to learn and works with them to get there.

He builds their foundation along the way. He is flexible with working students and each one goes away with a digital or audio copy of their lesson. He is very creative in providing digital support for students on his website.

He is also a very personable and a great guy.

David Campbell (Electric Guitar Student)

Gary has a ton of guitar teaching knowledge and experience.
He uses the most up to date teaching methods.

Once he determines your skill level, whether it be beginner, or
intermediate, or expert, he will develop a lesson plan that will
take you to the next level and beyond.

He is a natural born teacher...very patient. "I look forward to each lesson because I
know I will gain knowledge, and leave the lesson a better guitarist".

Gerald Smith (Electric Guitar Student)

There are guitar instructors and guitar teachers. An instructor shows you what to do. A teacher tells you why it's done that way. Gary is a guitar teacher.

When he teaches a lesson you will be able to play a piece and know why you play it that way. The DVD's are absolutely invaluable, you can review your lesson as many times as you like. I don't know of any one else that does this.

Gary will also create customized backing tracks for you to practice with. Using software, he can slow the speed of a song down while you are learning it. This speeds up learning and cuts down on frustration. He will send you songs and chord charts through "You Send It" which is very fast.

Gary is very passionate about teaching guitar. You WON'T find a better teacher.

Pratt Smith (Electric Guitar Student)

I've always been incredibly musically challenged and I've learned more
about music from Gary in the past 4 months than I have from the 8 years of
music lessons and teachers I'd been through beforehand.

Unlike most instructors who use generic lessons, he really tailors each lesson to fit each individual student and makes it incredibly easy to understand.
It's really a waste of time to go to someone who might charge less and love guitar but not really know how to teach someone how to play and understand it.

(I've tried it and I just ended up frustrated and discouraged). You'll end up spending way more time (and eventually a lot more money) in the long run going to
someone like this than someone like Gary who can teach you the same stuff
in a fraction of the time.

He's tremendously patient and each lesson gives you

a dvd recording of each lesson and custom exercises with backing tracks that

go with them. More importantly though, he is GREAT at teaching and is also
really enthusiastic about it.

Considering all of the above, Gary's lessons are

definitely the best investment and value you could possibly get around town.

Instructors like him are hard to come by.

Gary has a unique method of teaching.  He breaks things down from a music theory aspect so you can understand "why" you are playing what you are playing.

He has his own teaching method that is easy to understand and that you can get the hang of quickly.  He uses custom tracks that he creates and has software to speed up or slow down the bpm so you can play along at the speed you are comfortable with. He also give you a dvd at the end of each lesson so you can go back and practice.

I have been to several different guitar teachers, but what makes Gary unique is that he has a plan for your development as a player.  He is not one of these "what do you want to learn today?" guitar teachers. I have been learning a lot from Gary and enjoy having him as a teacher.

I have taken bass guitar lesson from Gary Bruce for two years now.  When I started I had never picked up a guitar in my life.  Even though Gary’s experience has been on lead guitar, you would never know that.
I thought he had been playing bass for 30 years! I couldn’t be happier with Gary’s lessons and all that comes with it.

Each lesson is videoed and you get to take home the DVD of the lesson as well as any printed charts. Gary has a state of the art studio as well as all the high end equipment and software necessary to get the most out of each lesson.  He has created many backing tracks, slowed the tracks down and separated the instruments.

All of this is custom-made for each student.  You’ll get tracks and chord charts through YouSend It which is a big improvement over email attachments.  Gary takes each student where they are and works them through a learning progression. Gary’s web site is loaded with all that a student could need. It is constantly being updated and is an excellent on-line tool for practice.

I have 2 younger brothers that have been playing bass for 20 years, in punk bands in Athens and Atlanta, Ga.  My level of knowledge of the theory of guitar, chords and techniques far outpaces theirs, just after 2 years.  You won’t get the quick hacks and shortcuts when studying with Gary.  You get a very solid musical foundation.

Gary is super flexible if your standing appointment doesn’t work in a given week.  He will do whatever he can to get you re-scheduled.  If you can’t make the lesson at his studio, another option is to take the lesson over Skype.

I highly recommend studying with Gary for anyone, at whatever skill level, who wants to study guitar.  You won’t be disappointed.  The first lesson is a no-charge “meet-and-greet”.  You have nothing to loose.  Don’t miss this opportunity.

Erik Rej (Bass Guitar Student)
I have taken acoustic guitar lessons from Gary for 6 months. It is an understatement to say I am "musically challenged". Gary's individualized teaching approach has made me feel comfortable about learning to play an instrument at 50!

He videos each lesson, provides customized backing tracks and I get my material very quickly through "You Send It".  I have a varied work schedule and Gary has always accomodated my scheduling needs.

I enjoy learning from Gary!

Teresa Hevener (Acoustic Guitar Student)

Up to a month ago I knew nothing about guitars or guitar playing.  Gary breaks down each lesson for his students.  I am musically challenged so if I can understand it anybody can.

Gary provides his students with a DVD for each lesson given so you can go back and watch for reference.  Gary provides chord and progression charts that are broken down and easy to understand.

Each student also obtains backing tracks that are emailed to you.  This gives you a chance to play along with the backing track and are each customized by Gary, towards each students playing capabilities.

All files are sent through "You Send It" which is software for quicker downloads.  Gary is a great instructor.  He is patient and always takes time to answer any questions you might have.

Gary Magyar (Acoustic Guitar Student)

I have been studying guitar under Gary for the better part of 7 years.
His unique teaching theory combined with his state of the art studio and video lessons truly enhance  a students learning potential.

Gary really takes his time in catering to his students abilities and desired outcomes. He provides full song and chord charts tailored to the individual students lessons.

Gary will also send backing tracks, charts and song diagrams through “you send it”, which is a much faster way of retrieving large files via email.

With his years as a stage performer, studio guitarist and teacher, he has a passion to extending this knowledge with all of his students. Hands down, just an incredible teacher.

Brad Tolson (Electric Guitar Student)
Entering my 40’s and narrowly averting a nasty case of "midlife crisis", I decided to try something different and try learning the guitar.

Searching the Columbia, SC area for guitar teachers nearby, I found Gary's website. I quickly realized that Gary was highly organized and had a very unique and effective teaching style that was different from anyone I'd run across. The first think I liked about Gary is that he quickly assessed my skills and my goals and "met me where I was".

Gary video records each of our classes and sends me home with a DVD that I can reference during my practice between classes.

He has a wealth of self-developed teaching materials that was very practical and effective at getting a complete newcomer to the guitar up to speed quickly.

It's those critical first few lessons that tend to make or break a student's interest and Gary had me quickly engaged right from the start. He is very adept at using the latest technologies to make our lessons dynamic and easy build upon in my daily practice:

- Video recording of lessons

- Digital file transfers of practice sheet music and sample play-along files.

- Digitally adapting popular and familiar music to practice speeds so I can learn music that I'm   inspired to practice.

- Custom built backing tracks and songs that I can practice with each lesson.

So far, I haven't found anyone else with this kind of well developed, highly customized and organized teaching technique.

I'll be with Gary for a long time to come.

When I decided I wanted to pursue guitar, I looked at quite a few options for teachers.
Gary invited me out for a sit down and I knew right then he was the right one for me.

He has a proven method of teaching that progresses the learner at their own pace.
Every lesson is video recorded so that it is available for play back during practice.  This is a huge benefit as there is no way you can simply remember all the great instruction Gary provides.

I often describe Gary as "The hardest working dude in music" because he is constantly creating cool backing tracks for practice, or using some of his awesome tools to literally slow down songs I like, so that I can learn them at my own pace.

He creates fantastic learning aides that he provides at each lesson as well as makes them available on his website.  If you are considering a teacher, take a few minutes and talk to Gary....you'll see what I mean!

Jon Maddox (Electric Guitar Student)

Gary was my guitar player for close to 15 years.

He is a very good player and an excellent guitar teacher.

I know many people that have taken lessons from him over the years.

I highly recommend him as a player and a teacher.
