How do the online webcam lessons work?
The online lessons are video calls also called Webcam Lessons.
All you need is a webcam and Skype installed on your computer. Skype is a free video interface that allows face to face contact. I provide the download link to Skype later in this answer. You will need to purchase a webcam. If you are already familiar with video calling with programs other than Skype, all you need to do is download Skype. If you are not familiar with video calling I'll explain it here.
Video calling is a way to communicate face to face using the internet. The way this works is we both go online to Skype (a video interface) and using webcams we see each other on our monitors and hear each other through our computer's speakers. The webcams have a built in microphone which allow us to speak to each other. It's like a high tech phone call, except you see and hear each other in real time. (Just like you were in the same room with each other) This is an excellent way to communicate with anyone anywhere, providing both parties have an internet connection, Skype and webcams. If you need any help in purchasing a webcam I'll be glad to help. I use a Logitech Pro webcam that I get great results with. Microsoft also makes a nice webcam model 7000. These webcams cost between $80.00 to $99.00.You can find them at Office Depot, Best Buy, Target etc. It makes a big difference between a cheap webcam in the $20.00 to $30.00 range and a good quality one. Wow that was a long answer. They get shorter I promise.Gary

How long to most people take lessons?
I get asked this question a lot! It really varies depending on a students needs and situation. I have had students take for as long as 6 to 8 years and beyond, and I've had students that could only take one or two years. It's like any thing else, the more time you put into it the more you will get out of it.
|
|
How long does it take for most people to grasp the basic's and play simple songs.
See answer above. Just kidding! It really does vary depending on a students schedule, ability, former training, practice time etc. I can tell you that most people with moderate practice time can begin to play simple chord progression's and easy songs anywhere from 3 to 6 months.

What styles of music and artist influenced you?
When I first started playing "The Beatles" had just invaded America.
This had a big influence on me as well as just about anybody that played guitar at the time. From there it went to "The Rolling Stones" "The Dick Clark Five" "The Kinks" "The Beach Boys" "The Animals" and of course "The Ventures".
As I became a little older I begin to listen to what is now know as classic rock. This included everyone from Eric Clapton to Jimi Hendrix, Duane Allman, Jimmy Page, Ritchie Blackmore and Carlos Santana. I later broadened my scope to jazz and fusion. This included artist George Benson, Larry Carlton, Pat Methany, Steve Morris and many more.
I now listen to a wide variety of artist and music including Robin Ford, Eric Johnson, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Warren Haynes, Earl Klugh and the list could go on.
The bottom line is the more artist and styles of music you listen to the more versatile you will be.
